How to Keep Your Kids Healthy and Safe During the Winter Months!

Many people fail to realize that when winter begins, getting your child to school suddenly becomes a very difficult task. There are several things that you can do in order to ensure that your child gets off to school every day safely.

  1. If it snows you should make sure you take the time to clear your sidewalks and driveway. This will help to ensure that your child will not fall outside of your own home.
  1. Make sure that your child is dressed properly. Many parents will allow their children to go to school wearing inappropriate shoes or outfits. Some outfits such as dresses can leave portions of your child’s skin exposed to the cold, and end up making them sick, or causing other skin problems. Always make sure you check the weather in the morning so that you can dress your child appropriately.
  1. Always warm up your car if you will be driving your child to school. This will allow your vehicle plenty of time to warm up and to defrost!
  1. If your child walks to school, take the time to walk with them. Remember just because you may have shoveled your sidewalk does not mean that everyone in the did. It is always possible for your child to slip on a patch of ice on their way to school.
  1. Always get them started with a healthy warm breakfast. Instead of giving your child cereal everyday before school, why not see if you can adjust your schedule so that you can prepare a nice warm breakfast for them. Remember that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
  1. As soon as your child arrives home from school, immediately remove any wet clothes, such as socks or sweaters, and have them put on something warm and dry.
  1. If your child’s hands are cold from the snow or the weather you should never immediately place their hands in hot or warm water to attempt to warm them up. Just have them wrap their hands in a warm blanket for about fifteen minutes and they will slowly begin to warm up! A little hot chocolate will also help to speed up the process.
  1. Increase your child’s vitamin C intake. This can easily be done by giving your child more foods that have large amounts of vitamin C, in addition to their regular vitamins. This will help to boost immune system, which is a definite must during the summer months.

These are just a few suggestions that parents can keep in mind during the winter months. Keeping your child safe and healthy during the winter time should be just as important as it is during the other seasons. Try to avoid making your child spend a lot of time indoors. Even if they can only play outside for about twenty minutes before they have to come in and get warmed up, then try to do this at least once after school if they are in school. For younger children who are home all day you should try to do this in the afternoon which is actually the warmest part of the day. A click this over here now at the information will provide the right suggestions to the person. The safety of the child should be the first priority of the person in winter months.

5 Things You Should Know About Online Privacy

If there is one thing that we have learned from the recent Facebook TOS flap, it’s that online privacy is a big deal.
While many of us like having places to share our thoughts and images with friends and loved ones, we also want to know that we can trust the sites that provide the platforms for our social interactions. We expect that web services will be responsible with the information we put on their servers, and not utilize it in an unscrupulous fashion.

And while these websites have a responsibility to respect our privacy, we also have to educate ourselves regarding online privacy in general. Here’s a list of things that you should know about online privacy.

1. Things that you post online are hard to get rid of. One thing that you should take from the situation with Facebook’s Terms of Service, is that once you put your stuff online, it’s not so easy to get it off. When Facebook put in it’s TOS that they could utilize user information and pictures even after a profile is closed, it was because they do not plan to erase a user’s pictures or words from all of the remaining profiles that contain that information.

And guess what? Most websites work the same way.

And guess what else? If you put that picture of yourself carousing at the xmas party on your profile, and decide that you want a service to take it down later, there is no law that will compel them to do so. As a matter of fact, the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) only warrants that the website follow their own privacy policy. That means that you should think long and hard about what you post on a web profile

You should also get in the habit of reading the privacy policy for sites that you share information on. That will let you know what rights you have pertaining to that site.

2. Internet browsers can store a lot of private information. They can also send it all over the internet. Don’t believe it? Just log-on to http://network-tools.com/analyze, and you can get a sample of the information that your browser can spread. Most likely it will provide your IP address (your computer’s unique address) along with your location, and your surfing history.

What can you do about this? Well, first of all, make sure that your keep your browser updated with the latest security patches. This can be set to happen automatically. You can also use a browser like Firefox that will allow you to erase all your private data with one click. Also, check out your browser’s help section to determine how its privacy settings work.

3. Make sure a site is secure before you give your credit card info. How do you know? For one, if the site is secure, your browser should have an unbroken padlock icon in the lower right hand corner. Also make sure that that the site’s security certificate is up to date by right-clicking on the padlock. If it isn’t don’t shop there. The “http” in the address bar should have an “s” at the end of it as well. If this is the case then your information should be encrypted before its transmitted.

4. You need to know how to secure your computer. If you are surfing the internet, you need to know about firewalls, which should control what goes both in and out of your computer, as well as anti-virus and anti-spyware programs, that will remove malicious programs from your computer. There are many free and paid options, some TorGuard discount offer or TorGuard promo code can be found here. When it comes to anti-virus and anti-spyware programs, there is no program that will remove all threats to your system. Download several and run them one after the other for maximum protection.

5. Be wary of free Wi-Fi connections. Nowadays, many bookstores, libraries and coffeeshops have free Wi-Fi connections that they offer for your use. However, unless you set up the connection yourself, you cannot be sure about the security precautions that are being used. Because of this, your should treat these connections just like you would a public computer. Be careful about accessing your financial statements and making purchases with your credit card while operating on an open network. For more information on wireless internet safety, go here.

Guide To Laser Hair Removal

There are a few things to consider before getting laser hair removal treatments. One of the firsts is weather or not you are an idea candidate.

One of the most important requirements is that the hair to be removed must be darker than the surrounding skin. The process usually does not work on people with blond or red hair, or people with light hair and tanned skin. People who have dark hair, but have tans should wait until the tan has faded to get the best results. How the process works is the reason why the hair must be so much darker than the skin. Blonde, red, and light brown hair that has shades of blond or red usually contains a pigment called pheomelanin, which does not absorb laser energy as well as the pigment, called eumelanin, that is present in black or brown hair. Also, fair skin does not absorb the laser light very easily, so more of the light goes into the hair follicle, causing the treatment to work better, and quicker. Laser hair removal can be done on people with light hair, or dark skin, but the process is longer, more difficult, and the results are not guaranteed.

Another thing to consider is the cost. Laser hair removal takes many sessions to have successful long-term results. Usually four sessions are recommended to begin with, and may cost from $500-$1000 a session. The size of the area to be treated also affects the price. Large areas, like legs, cost more, while small areas, like upper lips, may be a bit less. Because the process of laser hair removal needs to be individualized for each patient, a consultation is the only way to know if you can afford it.

Knowing who to get treatments from is important too. An inexperienced or unqualified person could end up doing more harm than good.

Requirements for laser hair removal vary by state. Most states are very strict though, requiring that the process only be done by a medical doctor, registered nurse, or nurse practitioner. Remember that this is a medical procedure, and should be treated as such, so electrologists, spa staff, or even a medical assistant should not be performing this procedure on you.

Some places to steer clear of are those that offer discounts, guarantees, or do not seem professional, medical, or give you any uneasy feelings. There is no way to guarantee results with laser hair removal, so those establishments offering a guarantee are offering the impossible. Also, a good medical center should have a great reputation to sell themselves, not a discount to reel you in. Be weary, your skin is your most valuable, and important organ.

Once you have decided that you are a good candidate, can afford the treatments, and have found a good professional to administer your treatments, it is very important to know a few things about the process to help you understand your results. Understanding the process helps you to not get frustrated if permanent results are not achieved quickly enough for you.

One of the most important things to know is why it takes more than one treatment to get choice results. The laser hair removal process affects hair in the anagen phase the most. The growth cycle of hair is called the anagen phase. The hairs on your body grow in cycles, so not all hair will be in a growing cycle at the same time. By repeating the laser hair removal process, all the hairs can be caught by the light in their anagen phase eventually, causing better permanent results.

Another factor to consider is excess consumption of beta-carotene. This important nutrient is found in carrots, squash, and some dietary supplements, and is important for great eye and immune system health. Unfortunately, ingesting large amounts of beta-carotene can cause a yellow or orange temporary tint to the skin, absorbing the laser light. Since beta-carotene can stay in the skin for months after ingesting it, just like a tan, it will take quite a while to fade before you can get good laser hair removal results.

Another thing that might impede your results is the thickness of your hair. Coarse hair gets the best results, and fine hair is very difficult to remove. Even if the fine hair is dark, it may take longer to get optimum results.

When you have begun to get your laser hair removal treatments, it is important to look out for adverse reactions.
Temporary changes in the pigment of your skin, either light, or dark, are harmless, and will go away with time. People with darker or tanned skin are more prone to changes in pigment than fair skinned people.

People with dark or tanned skin may also get rare burns, or blisters. Remember not to receive treatments while the skin is burned or broken, and watch for infection. Although dark skinned and tanned people are more likely to burn or blister, everyone should check out for them. Any other unusually marks or reactions that may have come from laser hair removal should be looks at by a dermatologist or physician.

Knowing a few simple things before, during, and after your laser hair removal treatments is the key to great results.

Got Hair Dye On Your Scalp? Home Remedies To Remove Color From Scalp

Got hair dye on your scalp from coloring your hair black, purple, red, or pink? Removing hair dye remedies for your skin can not be applied to the scalp in the same matter. Why? Because some of the products can be extremely harsh on the scalp. For instance: You can apply WD-40 to your hands to remove black hair dye, but on the head it can cause a major issues such as itching, dryness, allergic reaction or even bumps.
Never use lemon juice, peroxide, dish detergent, or a clarifying/medicated shampoo. Why? Because these products will start to strip your fresh new color. Use these home remedies.

Warm Milk

Place a small amount of milk into a microwave safe bowl. Heat up for 20-30 seconds. Allow the milk to cool down, but not too long. While the milk is lukewarm dip a rag into it. Make sure the rag is saturated and place directly onto the scalp. Rub into the scalp where the dye is located. Use a little bit of pressure and elbow grease. After rubbing let the milk to stay on for 10 minutes, then rinse in cold water.

Hair Dye

You can do this two ways. Mix a drop of leftover hair color with a very gentle shampoo, or place some hair dye onto your finger and rub into the scalp. Dye does remove dye.

Toothpaste

With the thousands of toothpastes on the market, the only one I found that works extremely well with removing hair dye from the scalp is Cinnamon. You can use any brand as long as the tube says cinnamon on it.

Wet your toothbrush thoroughly. Then place a decent amount of toothpaste onto a brush. Place the brush directly on the stained area, and gently scrub into a lather. Scrub for 2-3 minutes, and then stop. Leave the paste on scalp for 10 minutes. Rinse off in cold water.

Alcohol Free Face Toner

I know many people or I should say beauticians swear by Sea Breeze or rubbing alcohol, but these products can totally dry your scalp out. Opt for something like Neutrogena Alcohol Free Toner. This will be more gentle, and cause less irritation. Place a small amount onto a cotton ball or rag and scrub the scalp gently. No need to apply extra pressure.

Baby Oil

This is a very safe way to remove hair dye off your scalp. Place a small amount onto the area desired. Rub it in throughly, and allow the oil to stay on your scalp for 15-45 minutes. Place a processing cap over the head so the oil does not drip out. Rinse with cold water. If you only have a very tiny section to do, you can leave it on over night, but larger section I would not recommend.

If all fails which they shouldn’t head over to a Sally beauty supply store and pick up either Color Trak Wipe Off, or Dy-Zoff Hair Color Stain Remover.

Fun Facts And Information About The Dolphin

They are easily regarded as one of the most beautiful and lovable of all animals, a regular favorite for many. They are found world wide but prefer warmer, shallower water along coastal regions. There are approximately 40 species of dolphin with the bottlenose dolphin being the most commonly known. They are also known for their extreme intelligence and have even been used in the military for rescue operations and to identify buried lethal mines. Another well know trait of dolphins is their relative ease with which they approach and interact with humans. There are many tales of dolphins helping divers and surfers to ward off a shark attack. Not only are they willing to help us in dangerous situations but countless people will testify to the healing powers of being in close proximity with and touching a dolphin and there are many Dolphin Human Therapy centers where one can come and ease a troubled soul.

Bottlenose dolphins live in small groups of up to 15 individuals called pods. They can, however join pods and swim in combined groups of about a hundred animals. According to the American Cetacean Association, the main diet its small fish, squid and an occasional crustacean. When approached by a school of fish they will work as a team and herd the fish together and drive them towards the shore to facilitate an easy meal. If they hunt alone they sometimes use a procedure called “fish whacking” where they whack a fish right out of the water with their tail flukes and thereby stunning the animal and making it easier to catch as it fall back into the water. Dolphins are predators and though they are generally seen as gentile creatures, they do show aggressive behavior when the males fight for rank and mating rights. Also with declining food supplies due to man’s over fishing, they will attack smaller dolphins and kill them to eliminate the competition for food.

They are warm blooded mammals (not fish) who give birth to one calf at a time and display a very close bond with her young. The nursing period is between 18 and 20 months and it takes several years to wean them of their mother’s teats. They have an average lifespan of about 40 years but can get considerably older.

Here are some interesting facts about dolphins:

1. The female stays pregnant for a whole year and the birth is assisted by a “midwife”.

2. They have taste buds and show preferences in taste.

3. Dolphins cannot breathe under water and must come up for air.

4. They sleep for 8 hours a day near the water’s surface and they do so with one eye open.

5. Even though they are not blind, like bats, they use sonar waves to “see” what is ahead of them.

6. Females as old as 45 have been recorded to give birth.

Friends With Money: Protecting Yourself When You’re The One Who’s Got The Most

Humans are social creatures; rarely do we like to spend lots of time with ourselves. While some people find it perfectly acceptable to attend a movie alone, others seek out at least one person to join them at the theatre. The same goes for stage performances and concerts. What do going to the movies, live theatre, and big name concerts all have in common?

Each of these activities costs money.

Technology has made it time efficient for movie-, live stage-, and concert- goers to purchase their tickets online with just a few clicks. Who wouldn’t choose that option over waiting in a long, slow line? The catch: there is only room for one credit card number.

So whose responsibility is it to pay for the tickets? In a perfect world, it would be up to each attendee to cough up the dough, preferably cash or a personal check, to one responsible person who will then purchase tickets for everyone. However, the good seats go fast and it’s easier for one person to charge it and expect to be paid back at a later date. Ideally, everyone will have paid for their tickets before the date of the event, or the date of the event at the very latest.

Chances are we have all been a borrower and/or a loaner. There are three types of borrowers:

1)Those who reimburse the loaner before or on the date of the event.

2)Those who take a few weeks or months to reimburse the loaner.

3)Those who never reimburse the loaner.

There are also three types of loaners:

1)Those who wish to be reimbursed before or on the date of the event.

2)Those who don’t mind being reimbursed within a few weeks or even months.

3)Those who don’t mind or care that they have not been reimbursed.

Loaners are more likely to expect reimbursement if the cost of the ticket is high. In most cities movie tickets cost around 8 or 9 dollars, about the hourly wage of many retail jobs. 8 or 9 dollars can also buy a pretty decent lunch or dinner at a cheaper restaurant. If a friend buys your movie ticket in advance for you, offer to buy theatre treats or a meal after the movie. If you buy the tickets in advance, suggest that your friend buy theatre treats or your meal after the movie. Either way, each individual has contributed to covering costs for your activity.

But what happens when you’ve spent $50 or more for your friend’s ticket and it’s been a few weeks? Before you know it, those weeks can turn into months and eventually a year. Are you still sitting by the phone or waiting for an email? If it’s been this long, you should be fairly confident you are never going to see that money again.

There are a few ways you can protect yourself and your money:

Know your friends. If you know your friends, you know which ones are the most reliable. Don’t be afraid to be picky over whose advance costs you’ll cover. If you are just getting to know a potential new friend, try spending a small amount of money on that person and clearly state you expect to be paid back. On your next outing, cover a larger amount. If you have been reimbursed for each outing, you may have just made yourself a reliable new friend.

Only bring enough money to cover your own expenses. Sometimes you really enjoy the company of a friend, even if that person is financially irresponsible. However, hanging out with this friend might mean losing out on some of your hard-earned cash. For example, your friend is short a few bucks and asks you to loan it to them. You’ve fallen for this before, and still haven’t been paid back. Plan ahead and establish how much you will be spending. When you go out with your friend, only bring enough money to cover your own expenses. If you pay with a debit or credit card and your friend asks you to pay, gently explain you are low on funds and only have enough in your account to pay for yourself. Your friend will get the message that you do not trust him or her, and maybe even get the hint to pay you back.

Sell your friend’s ticket if he or she has not paid up. You’ve been burned one too many times, and now you’re not giving any more chances. If it falls on your shoulders to pay in advance for something, provide your friends with a reimbursement deadline. Gently inform them that if they are unable to pay you back before the deadline you will find someone else who can.

Be aggressive. If you are still waiting for you friend to reimburse you, keep issuing reminders. Make it very clear that you did them a favor by covering the cost for them in advance. If you suspect your friend has financial difficulties, let him or her know it would be acceptable to pay you back in small amounts. If your friendship is valued, you will eventually get your dues.

Fool Proof Weight Loss

A great many of us have tried every diet on the planet that we could find. The low fat diet was popular once upon a time and the Atkins diet was a giant fad. Between, before, and after those diets were a slew of other mystical ways to lose weight. The problem with most diets is that they are hard to stick with and when you stop, the weight comes back–sometimes with a vengeance. What good are those kinds of diets?

I hate counting calories and having to watch what I eat when I’m eating out. Determining the caloric damage of a restaurant meal is an art form all its own–some menus tell you the number of calories now. How am I supposed to know which choice of entree that I actually want to eat is also not going to be worth two meals in calories? That is way too much work–and mostly guess work–to do when you are out trying to have a good time.

The easiest of all diets to stick to and actually lose weight with is a meal replacement diet. Some people might call it a liquid diet. The idea is to replace certain meals with liquid ones that have a set number of calories, vitamins, minerals, and everything else that you can scientifically control. These shakes are generally a few hundred calories and keeps you satisfied. You are never starving yourself.

A meal replacement diet is simple and fool proof. Studies show that replacing one or two meals a day leads to a consistent loss of 7 to 8 percent of body weight in a year. You can choose to replace your entire diet with meal replacements. That will get boring and you will likely get a craving for real food. Real food is nice. I don’t recommend making every meal a liquid one but, replacing most of them will probably give you the results you want without any side-effects of weight loss drugs. You can replace most of your meals with a liquid one and then make sure that your other meal is consistently in line with your diet so when you go out to eat, it won’t matter what you order. You can consider it a treat.

You can get any number of over-the-counter meal replacement products like Slim-Fast, Met-Rx, or Atkins Nutritionals. You can also buy meal replacement powders from places like GNC. The idea is to look for something that has a good ratio of fats, carbs, and proteins as well as lots of vitamins and minerals. Basically, you want to replace what you would normally get in real food with the liquid stuff. In a lot of case, you’ll probably be eating better–nutritionally–with the shakes if your current diet consists mainly of mass-produced or highly processed chain restaurant foods.

I’ve tried a few meal replacement shakes from making my own using real ingredients in a blender to prepackaged powdered products. For convenience sake, I would go with the powdered products. The one that I am currently using is Muscle Milk Chocolate Milk. It has a the blend of carbs, fats, and proteins that I want plus a handful of vitamins. On top of that, it actually tastes really good. It also has a lot of other things that are supposed to promote fat loss and boost muscle growth. I don’t know if it works but, if it does, great.

There isn’t an easier diet to follow on the planet. It works, usually quicker than most other diets, and it is easy to stick with. There is little preparation work involved once you figure out which meal replacement product you want to use. Mix this diet in with a real workout plan and you’ll be torching fat like nobody’s business.

Exterior Home Renovation and Improvement: Old is Not Always Gold

Clock ticks, time passes, we grow and so do all the other living organisms. You do agree with this statement right? Then you may get shocked when you hear someone say your house has gone old. But you don’t because it is in fact old because it’s not a living thing.

The above argument has become of much importance since time decays the exterior of your homes and the related discussion of renovation starts once again. Nowadays there is a lot of trend to change the outlook of homes by implementing different remodeling techniques. There is a lot one can do for this purpose such as restoring the roofs, changing the bricks, garage improvement and the reconditioning of windows and doors.

We peek into some elements of Exterior home renovation and find out what and how can be done in this regard.

Entrances and walkways:

Entrances must go through proper renovations or the whole picture of your home will be drab. The entrance walkway can afford stone tiling. Stone tiling gives a traditional aura to the exterior. At the entrances different shrubs and flowers will add a refreshing and pristine effect to the exterior of your home.

Roofs:

Roofs provide the shelter of your home and are a major concern when planning renovation. There can be leaks and broken shingles on the roof that will not only ruin the exterior portrait but will also affect the stability of your home.

Rubber roofing will ensure its durability and is best for both low and flat types. Proper air ventilation must be checked and regulated which will increase the life of the roof. Roofs can positively impact the exterior landscape if nice shingles are installed and they have attractive color combinations. There is a whole new variety that exists for both the roof design and shingles. You may pick the one that will uplift the whole exterior panorama.

Sidings:

Your home exterior begs nothing more than its sidings to be renovated to beautify its character. Sidings have a deep impact and renovating them is really necessary in the process of remodeling. There are different types of sidings available in the market and their proper selection is very important.

Different sidings are current; vinyl sidings, aluminum sidings and seamless steel sidings. The vinyl siding are very common and is a fine choice. It is affordable and long lasting. For best exterior design, vinyl siding has become quite popular. It needs washing twice a year.

Aluminum sidings are fireproof and they are more durable. But when ultimate exterior design is considered, the only choice is seamless steel siding. It has a very attractive look and it doesn’t need washing. This is the newest siding and it is very easily installed. Despite its expensive price tag, seamless steel siding is getting very popular.

Windows and doors:

Where would one be if windows and doors were all rusty and hanging loose from the hinges? Well in utter disgrace to say the least. One of the important improvements in exterior design that can’t possibly be overlooked is windows and doors.

Doors can be polished to give a new and fresh look. Proper cleaning increases their life. Windows embellish the exterior of the home with little renovation. Windows frames cherish the beauty of the whole house. Different frames and window borders are available at cheap costs from the market.

Garages:

Garages also constitute an important part in the exterior design. Garages demand a lot of remodeling if not taken care of correctly. Things to look for are new floors, cabinets and doors. Cabinets can be wooden or plastic. Newer models offer stainless steel cabinets that are very stylish and durable. So carefully tailor the materials according to your own style and taste. Make sure whatever you select must also glorify the exterior of your home.

Shutters:

One thing that will be noticeable on the first glance at your home exterior is a shutter. Shutters are very simple to be installed. The choice is simple, wood or vinyl. Vinyl shutters are relatively cheaper but they are not at all durable. Wood shutters have long lasting lives and are the best choice to magnify the exterior beauty. They are enduring and resistant to decay.

Water fountains:

Water fountains in your front yard or at the entrance are a very attractive and elegant addition. They are invaluable and must be well taken care of. Much of the exterior beauty is just because of a decent and nice fountain at the front of your house.

Renovation of the fountain is mostly related to its cleanliness. Keep your fountain clean by removing tree leaves and unwanted waste materials. You can increase the life of your fountain by keeping it dry in summer and covering it in the winter. Fountains add to scenic beauty and give a very tranquil and pristine landscape so they must be kept clean and constantly renovated to maintain the exterior elegance of your home.

Trees and Shrubs:

What really reinforces the scenic beauty of the home exterior are trees and plants. You may want to add shrubs alongside the walkway or roses before the entrance to give the exterior environment a calm and refreshing look. If you plant palm trees, they will totter and sway along with the wind giving a relaxed feeling of you being on an island. Shrubs and flower develop an aura of tranquility; they are natural gifts and are an essential element for the renovation of home exterior.

Above mentioned exterior remodeling tips are vital to be followed before you take any implementation step. You will achieve very satisfying results if you exercise your plan the way I have defined.

Enjoy a Weekend Getaway in Historic Medicine Park, OK

Situated on the edge of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife refuge, in the shadow of majestic Mt. Scott, you will find historic Medicine Park, Oklahoma.

Oklahoma Senator Elmer Thomas founded Medicine Park on July 4, 1908 as a resort community. Medicine Park was centered on Medicine Creek, a spot that the Native Americans thought had special healing powers. There were inns, a health spa, eateries, a dance hall, beautifully landscaped gardens and even some notorious visitors such as Bonnie and Clyde, Al Capone, and Pretty Boy Floyd.

The resort community thrived during the 1920’s, but the Depression and World War II kept people away from resorts and Medicine Park declined. It suffered through rough times and setbacks, but today it is being revived as an arts community and it makes a great weekend getaway for anniversaries, birthdays or romantic weekends.

The rustic look of Medicine Park is charming and quaint. The building material of choice is the rounded cobblestone, which can only be found in Oklahoma and nowhere else in the country. Almost all of the early day buildings are built from these cobblestones.

Spending a weekend in the foothills of the Wichita Mountains can be an exciting adventure.
